Electrical Manufacturing Engineer

We are seeking someone with an electrical background who has the desire and capability to take on, own, and lead the manufacturing of all electrical components and subassemblies for our high-power electronic product. This would include, but not be limited to, the Variable Speed Drive (VSD), Magnetic Bearing Controller (MBC), Dynamic Brake Resistor (DBR), and electrical interconnects such as breakers, contactors and fuses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand the operation and manufacturing process of the VSD, MBC, and DBR
  • Understand the component and system level electrical testing requirements.
  • Learn the current manufacturing process of the top level and sub-assemblies.
  • Use lean manufacturing methodologies to improve assembly processes, reduce waste, and reduce assembly time.
  • Incorporate new design requirements into the assembly process.
  • Support design changes for UL and CE certifications.
  • Ability to effectively work with the electrical technicians on the shop floor
  • Supplier Quality & Relationships – lead the resolution of any quality related issues at electrical suppliers.  Also, establish relationships with key electrical component suppliers to support design and process changes.
  • Production leadership – provide electrical manufacturing support to engineering, purchasing, and customers.
  • Ownership of the electrical manufacturing process instructions used by the technicians.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.

Skills, Experience, Education and Abilities

  • Manufacturing or Engineering Degree with at least 3 years of experience, Technical Certification with at least 5 years of experience, or at least 7 years of electrical manufacturing experience.
  • Should be able to read as well as create electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Solid works or other CAD program experience working with electrical diagrams is essential
  • Experience manufacturing of electrical subassemblies and variable frequency drives strongly preferred
  • Understanding of electrical agency and safety certifications and standards like UL and CE is highly desired
  • Six Sigma and/or Lean manufacturing experience, or at least training desired
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are a must

Supervisory Responsibilities

No direct supervisory responsibilities, however, the candidate must be able to lead teams both internally & externally.

 

Physical Demands

This is primary and on-site position, where time will be split between the office, shop floor, and supplier locations.  Candidate must be comfortable with travel as required to support production.  Travel is not expected to exceed 10%, however, is also dependent on sourcing decisions that the candidate will be involved with.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
