Applications Engineer - Mechanical

Position Summary: This position is responsible for supporting the sales process by reviewing customer requirements and process conditions to configure a solution that meets the customer’s requirements and their power production goals. The position works closely with customers and their contractors to provide guidance on equipment installation and other tasks as identified. The job may require occasional travel both domestically and internationally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop a sufficient understanding of Sapphire’s technologies and products.

• Analyze process conditions to select the optimal aerodynamic definition for project and predict power production capability

• Provide guidance on customer system and installation designs.

• Technical support of sales proposals

• Create, review and edit product manuals, specification sheets and internal technical procedures.

• Internally communicate product improvement feedback and product market trends.

• Continuously monitor and share information on competitors to ensure Sapphire’s offering maintains its competitive position.

• Provide technical support to the sales team during customer webinars, conference calls and in person visits.

Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Skills, Experience, Education and Abilities

• Engineering degree with a minimum of five (5) years of application engineering and/or customer service experience

• Able to dig deep and ask the right questions to understand and categorize the true needs and wants of customers

• Able to identify the value of our technology for the customer’s process/equipment

• A solid foundation in thermodynamics combined with experience evaluating customer process conditions to select an aerodynamic configuration

• Familiarity with defining installation requirements for process equipment and / or field experience installing and commissioning units

• Self-driven and goal-driven

• Persuasive and persistent

• Solid communication skills, written and oral

• Proven track record with cross-cultural engagement

Nice to Have

• Experience with application engineering or customer service in a turbomachinery or clean company

• Experience with application engineering or customer service

• Aptitude to learn technology from an application perspective

• Experience working in a small to mid-size company where the efforts of one or two individuals are very impactful

• Experience with Solidworks or other design/drafting systems

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
