Mechanical Assembly Technician

This position is responsible for assembling high-speed motor / generator turbomachinery equipment to support the operation of a Turboexpander Generator. The job will require fabrication, mechanical & electrical assembly, and some testing in accordance with applicable drawings, schematics, specifications, and process instructions for production and development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assemble high precision motor, generator and turbo machinery equipment components and systems
  • Execute some test operations with engineering instruction and document results
  • Route wires, assemble, and install electrical and electronic components.
  • Follow assembly instructions, prints, and specifications to determine component parts and assembly sequences of electromechanical parts.
  • Read schematics and drawings of electrical systems for the purpose of connecting sensor and actuator wires.
  • Manufacture custom wiring harness to fit equipment.
  • Route, comb, twist, tie wrap, and attach wire to terminal points, according to layout, using soldering gun and hand tools.
  • Position, align and adjust parts for proper fit and assembly.
  • Fabricate, form, and assemble parts, according to specifications, using drills, calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, height gages, cutters, and saws.
  • Logging in to proper sequences according to routing/traveler
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, as well as operate forklifts and cranes.
  • Field support to assist in commissioning and troubleshooting as required.
  • Follow all safety procedures in handling equipment and machines.
  • Follow the company safety policy to wear safety glasses & shoes when required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.

  • 3-5 years manufacturing experience
  • Must be able to read and understand mechanical & electrical drawings.
  • Ability to manage time & work well under pressure.
  • Attention to detail is a must; perform all tasks with a high level of accuracy.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Team player with good communication skills
  • Additional computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite

Nice to Have

  • Experience mechanically assembling machinery
  • Machining or grinding experience with an understanding of precision part tolerances.
  • Experience with AC-DC conversion equipment and motor drives
  • Experience in a clean energy company
  • Experience working in a small to mid-size company where the efforts of one or two individuals are very impactful.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Candidate will not typically be travelling, however must be able to travel up to 5% of the time to support field operations as necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
