Sapphire Technologies Wins Emerging Clean Technologies Award at Global Energy Show Canada

June 17, 2024

Sapphire Technologies is honored to have received this year’s award for Emerging Clean Technologies for our work in manufacturing energy recovery systems that convert energy wasted in pressure reduction processes into clean electricity throughout the natural gas supply chain.

Global Energy Show Canada is the leading energy show in North America, bringing together over 30,000 attendees from 110+ countries. The event focuses on decarbonization strategies and clean tech investments, with an emphasis on practical solutions for industry challenges. The event also includes an awards ceremony recognizing innovators in sustainable energy solutions across 8 categories. Judges include a diverse panel of industry leaders in oil and gas, policymakers, and clean tech innovators. Sapphire Technologies is honored to have received this year’s award for Emerging Clean Technologies for our work in manufacturing energy recovery systems that convert energy wasted in pressure reduction processes into clean electricity throughout the natural gas supply chain.

The Emerging Clean Technologies Award recognizes technologies that “improve environmental performance or decrease cost of production in the energy industry through significant energy efficiency improvements, the sustainable use of resources, or environmental protection activities.” Turboexpander-generators have emerged as a reliable and emission-free method for generating clean electricity from pressure letdown processes. One such use case occurs throughout the natural gas distribution network, where pressure is reduced in pressure letdown (PLD) stations. Leading midstream operators have already adopted Sapphire Technologies’ turboexpander technology to decarbonize pipelines, reduce operational costs on energy, and generate new revenue streams through external sales of clean electricity.

Over the past year, Sapphire Technologies has also adapted the FreeSpin® turboexpander (FIT) solution for high pressure applications to help upstream E&P companies electrify the wellhead. By electrifying the wellhead, E&P operators can eliminate the need to utilize heavy-emission power sources like diesel generators. The opportunity to deploy FITs across the hundreds of thousands of pressure letdown stations across the natural gas supply chain represents an immediate opportunity to make a substantial impact on decarbonizing natural gas while also reducing operational costs for producers and distributors.

We would like to congratulate our fellow nominees Impossible Sensing Energy (Honorable Mention), Carbonova, Forefront Energy, and Weldfit for their innovative work in developing clean technology solutions across the energy supply chain.
